OUTREACH TEAM
In recent years, the Unity of St. Petersburg Outreach Team has spearheaded
projects in our own neighborhood to other continents across the world—from providing teddy bears for the police department for comforting
children in traumatic situations to providing $2,000 worth of medicine
and vitamins for pregnant women and children
through a clinic in Nicaragua. Other local projects include providing
hygiene items to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, supporting a room in
the family unit at the Homeless Service, monthly donations to the CASA
shelter for abused women and their children, providing school supplies
for the children at Fairmount and Westgate Elementary schools, and every
Christmas sponsoring a family.
Other
international projects have included providing cleft lip operations
through "The Smile Train," providing 2,208 children with vitamin A for
one year to prevent blindness through "Helen Keller Int," providing 142
mosquito nets for children in Africa through "Malaria No More," and
providing 1,018 vaccinations for children in 3rd world countries through
"Project Hope."
Our "Soles for Souls" shoe drive provided more than 300 pairs of
shoes for the Salvation Army Shelter, ASAP Homeless
Services and the CASA Shelter.
